Smoking cigarettes is like any other habit. As a former smoker as well as a nurse, I was aware of the risks. While I read all of the information out there about the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association campaigns for smoking cessation, I simply didn’t stop.
The reality was that I couldn’t quit smoking, so I made up reasons for that. I liked smoking, I liked the taste of it. I even justified it on some level by saying that smokers had rights. We do. We have the right to choke, to wake up unable to breathe, to be unable to play with our kids or to walk a flight of steps without breathing heavily. It took me a while to realize that I was ready to give up those rights to gain a few others, such as tasting my food, smelling the flowers, breathing more easily and living longer.
I’m not preaching, I’m saying, that I think the reason it took me so long to wake up is that I was making up excuses for the fact that I wasn’t ready to try something that I knew was a difficult task at best. Today, fortunately, we’ve got so many good ways to help us quit smoking fast, and stop smoking easily, that continuing to smoke cigarettes is something we can’t justify unless we really do like smoking.
When you’re ready to quit, Easy Way to Stop Smoking is ready to help you. Community chat, mutual encouragement, discussion about the reasons we need to stop and help from those who already did is just a click away.
IF you don’t do anything else for yourself or your family this year, make it a point to stop smoking in 2011.
